Next to Liberty Island is Ellis Island. For much of the twentieth century, this was the entry point for millions of immigrants into the U.S. Many people come here to retrace the steps of their ancestors. We found it fascinating for the history (and the chance to sit down for half an hour at the end of a long day to watch a movie about the immigrants).
This hall was typically filled with several thousand would-be immigrants on any given day. The whole place has been restored to what it was like in the 1940s-50s.
