First stop on our travels today is the US Mint. This is where they make their coins, as well as commerative medals etc. They are currently making commerative quarters for each of the states, releasing 5 a year, in order of when they joined the Union. 2008 is the last year of production. It's been a boom to the economy as people have been buying them in droves to collect (I admit to having a collection of about 35 of them so far).
Before we left, we watched a documentary on how coins are made here, so it was great to see it all in action.
We weren't allowed to take cameras inside, so we had to be satisfied with these outside shots.
As a souvenir, we each chose a commerative coin for someone we admired from the US. We chose Washington (both George and Martha), Rooselvelt (Teddy), Rosa Parks (guess who chose Rosa) and Abraham Lincoln.
