There are in excess of 100 monuments in the area to the fallen. The monuments are unusual in that the soldiers portrayed are on foot as opposed to being on horseback as we have seen elsewhere in the US and Europe.
Sam and Gemma toook part in the Junior Ranger program (as they did in Manassas), where they fill out a workbook as we explore the park, and they receive a certificate and badge as a reward. Here Sam is learning about the beginning of the American Red Cross.

There are canons absolutely everywhere in this field.
Gemma's guide required her to identify various monuments as we drove around the park. The most interested was an inverted cannon, used to remember generals etc who died in the battles here such as this one here.
The Burnside Bridge was the final part of the quest for the Junior Ranger badge for Antietam!
