It's a great setting, surrounded by the Scuptures (like the Spider and the Parisian Metro sign), and the National Archives lurking there across Consitution.
The weather was warm, into the 50s and there was no wind and the sun was shining. A perfect day to be outdoors (winter has been pretty mild here as you can gather by the lack of snow photos - we had to go to Utah to experience a real winter!).
There was nervous anticipation as we put on our skates and waited for the Zamboni to smooth the ice for us (it was loud).
The kids all started a little bit shaky, but soon got the hang of it. Gemma took to it the quickest (not surprising given her personality), and in spite of the fact that she kept falling down, she kept getting up. Sam and Alyssa were both a bit more cautious, but ended up skating freely, and we all had a great time. It's a pity there's only one more week of it before it turns back into a pond. we're lucky it has lasted as long as it has.
On the way back to the Metro station, I caught this classic DC view looking down Pennsylvania Ave towards the Capitol from the direction of the White House.
