Disney have a system in both their parks at Anaheim called Fastpass, which allows you to move to the front of the line on certain rides. You use your admission pass to register at one of these rides, and it prints out a ticket with a time later in the day, after which you can go to the front of the line. There are only two catches. You can only hold one fast pass per ticket at a time, unless the time for that Fastpass ticket (or two hours) has passed. You can then get another. So, with bit of careful planning, there's no need to wait in line for any of the major rides. And that's what we did (or rather didn't do for the 3 days). It also helped that not everyone wanted to ride the rides, so we could really share the love around.
Our friends also put us unto the book "The Unofficial Guide to Dsneyland", which described this system, as well as a suggested 2 day itinerary which maximises time on the attractions and minimises time waiting in line. It worked beautifully.
At times, we almost felt guilty, walking past lines with a wait of over 75 minutes, and getting on within 5.
