This time of year it's a different story, especially early in the evening. Bus tours and walking tourists were everywhere. It's a pilgrimae to visit these sights, and today had been a particularly warm day.

The World War 2 Memorial, the newest memorial on the Mall, looks more impressive at night lit brilliantly than during the day (and it is pretty spectacular at day as well).

The White House, as seen from the nearest road (I wasn't allowed to take a photo any closer using my tripod than this - but during the day, you can stick your camera through the fence so it doesn't show - go figure).
Washington is spectacular by night. We had a great few hours driving around the city and walking amongst these monuments and memorials.
