Last year, we attended a neighbourhood BBQ which is one of the traditions.
This year, we attended the Memorial Day concert, held on the lawns of the U.S. Capitol Building.
All 8 of us piled onto the Metro for the trip into DC.
We got a good spot (after passing through security) on the lawn with the capitol looming overhead.
Sam and I went for a bit of a wander before the concert started to get the feel of things. Here you can see the Washington Monument in the distance.
People were crowded everywhere, even on the steps of the Capitol.
The Marines were there in full force.
The sky turned an electric blue as the sun set and the lit Capitol building made a magnificent scene.
